Kristie Miller Culler is running for Alamance County Clerk of Superior Court. Culler was elevated to the position in December 2024 after the previous clerk was elected to be a judge in Alamance County.
Culler has been in the legal field for over 30 years, having started at 19 years old working for her business law professor, who was an attorney. In the early 2000s, she began working for the Alamance County Attorney’s Office. She later worked for the Guilford County Clerk of Court before eventually working for Alamance County’s Clerk of Court. In her role, she also acts as a judge in many different proceedings. She meets with other judges and magistrates to make sure they are on top of things.
She said she decided to run because she loves her job.
“I love public service,” Culler said. “I love being able to go out in the hallway, if I see a line going, I'll jump in there and try to start helping people, because I can do that.”
She recently helped the court’s implementation of an online court database. But she said transitioning from having files just on paper to being online has put a lot more work on her staff. If elected, one of her priorities would be to get more staffing from the North Carolina General Assembly, she said.
“We're always advocating for more staffing, because that helps us serve the public, which is what we all want to be able to do,” Culler said.
She also said she wants to improve transparency and get the public to realize what services the court can provide.
“The public just doesn't know a lot of what we offer, what the Administrative Office of the Court offers for them, and so pushing that technology out to people, educating them,” Culler said. “Right now, on Facebook, on my clerk site, I'm doing a series of what does the clerk actually do? Because people don't know what we do here, until they come down here and need us.”

Steve McGilvray is running for Alamance County Clerk of Superior Court. McGilvray is a retired member of Graham’s police force, and was in law enforcement for 30 years. He currently works as a magistrate judge in Alamance County.
McGilvray said he has a passion for serving the public and said that he’s noticed a deficiency in the customer service of the clerk’s office.
“Based on my years of experience in dealing at the managerial level and leading folks, coaching folks, I feel like I can bring the clerk's office to that next level,” McGilvray said.
He said increasing staffing, even if it meant part-time positions to help with mundane tasks, would be a priority if elected.
“I know they're short. I see it every day they're short, and there's a lot of load put on these folks,” McGilvray said. “If we can come up with some way to reduce some aspect of that strain that they deal with daily.”
He also said he wants to create a welcoming environment for his staff so they will enjoy working more.
“There's not only the technological challenges that that office faces, but the ergonomical stress, strains and stresses that are put on people every day,” McGilvray said.
McGilvray said he is qualified for the position because of his years of experience interacting with the court system both as a judge and in law enforcement. He also said that through his managerial experience, he has always produced quality workers.
