Two term Mebane councilman, Sean Ewing, is running for a seat on the Alamance County Board of Commissioners and is on the ballot in the Democratic primary on March 3.

Ewing said his experience on Mebane’s City Council has prepared him to deal with budgets and departments like Alamance County’s.

Ewing is optimistic for his campaign, however he said that voter turnout during early voting has been low, calling for people to bring friends and family to increase those numbers. Beyond voter turnout, Ewing said his candidacy is driven by policy concerns.

“Our campaign was motivated because the Alamance County Commissioners continuously underfund Alamance-Burlington School System,” Ewing said. “They're looking to underfund the libraries. They've been talking about that last year, and it looks like they're looking to do it again this year, and our first responders, such as the EMS and the Alamance rescue squad are underfunded too.”

According to his campaign website, Ewing “pledged to be a common-sense, bipartisan leader.” He plans to increase opportunities for the county with a Development Grant Program for Historic Downtown Mebane. Additionally, he strives to increase job opportunities at UPS and Lotus Bakeries.

“I’m not a candidate that's going to say, ‘hey, remember me from four years ago,”’ Ewing said. “I’m asking for your vote. I’m always getting out there, always asking people their opinions, what’s going on, how I can help, even if it’s out of my jurisdiction.”

He pointed to a recent effort involving a planned road closure near a local school. Ewing said that the closure would have disrupted student drop-off and pick-up traffic. He worked alongside county commissioners, the Alamance-Burlington School System, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation to delay the closure until the summer.

“Things like that happen all the time,” Ewing said. “We are doing the work. We’re listening, we’re getting out there, and we’re supporting the people of Alamance County.”

Ramona Allen is running for Alamance County Board of Commissioners in the March 3 primary election.

A lifelong resident of Alamance County, Allen is an outreach pastor at God Encounters Outreach Ministries and a licensed minister with more than 35 years of service at New Beginners Church. She studied evangelism at Liberty University and has spent decades working in ministry and community outreach.

Allen did not respond to Elon News Network’s request for an interview.

Allen’s campaign centers on the theme “Change Is in the Vote,” emphasizing civic participation and voter engagement. Her platform calls for restoring rights to citizens, addressing voter suppression, and improving election integrity. She frames voting as a way for residents to influence policy and the overall direction of the county.

Education and taxes are also key components of her campaign strategy. On her website, Allen advocates for new or upgraded schools equipped with advanced educational tools while working toward lower county taxes. She promotes collaboration between community partners, describing partnerships as a way to pool resources and knowledge to achieve shared goals.

Addressing homelessness is another focus.  Allen oversees programs that provide clothing, food, and shower access for incarcerated families and individuals experiencing homelessness. Her campaign proposes creating or renovating spaces to help move people into stable housing.

Allen also highlights criminal justice and equity issues under the theme “And Justice for All,” seeking fair administration of justice regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic status. As a chaplain at the Alamance County Jail, she has facilitated parenting classes for women and worked alongside law enforcement in community initiatives.

Allen announced her candidacy in December 2025 and is seeking to bring her background in ministry and community service to county government.
